Over 1.5 million college seniors will be graduating this year. As corporate offices continue to focus on diversity, so do college classrooms. This class is one of the most diverse classes in US educational history.
Since 1980, the number of graduating females exceeded the number of graduating males. This year is no different with 898,000 females graduating and 608,000 males. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, between 1974 to 2004, undergraduate enrollment of minority students grew from 17 percent to 32 percent.

The middle of winter has long been a time of celebration around the world. Centuries before the arrival of the man called Jesus, early Europeans celebrated light and birth in the darkest days of winter. Many peoples rejoiced during the winter solstice when the worst of the winter was behind them and they could look forward to longer days and extended hours of sunlight.
In Scandinavia, the Norse celebrated Yule from December 21, the winter solstice, through January. In recognition of the return of the sun, fathers and sons would bring home large logs, which they would set on fire. The people would feast until the log burned out, which could take as many as 12 days. The Norse believed that each spark from the fire represented a new pig or calf that would be born during the coming year.

The average factory worker put in twelve hour days, seven days a week just to meet basic family expenses. And young children were not exempt from the grueling routine. Labor groups, craft guilds, and trade groups were formed for the goal of improving conditions, raising wages, and protecting children. In that time Labor Day was a time of fiery rhetoric and parades.
